It’s that time again…

Memorial Day is coming up this weekend, the holiday that of course honors the soldiers who fought hard and sacrificed all to protect our nation and give us the freedoms we enjoy today. Here at CARCHEX, we salute and remember America’s proud military and wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

Many of us here in Maryland, where CARCHEX is based, will hit the road this weekend to enjoy the holiday with friends out of town; or we might head to a relaxing weekend at the beach. One of the great things about living in the Mid-Atlantic region is that you can jump in your car and in a few hours, you could be kicking back on the beach, at the mountains, or even in one of our nation’s great cities, like New York, Philadelphia, or Washington, D.C.

Wherever you’re planning to roam, make sure your car is ready to get you there. Our resident expert Pat Goss shared his wisdom here on tips to make sure your car is ready for a long trip. Because the last thing you want on your way to a great time is a torn whosawhatsit or a blown thingamajig.

Long Trips; it’s very important to give the car a thorough checking over. And that really means that it should go into a repair shop and you should get a full blown safety inspection because there are a lot of things on a modern car that could be going bad but don’t give you any symptoms. So, just because you don’t feel anything doesn’t mean there isn’t anything going wrong.
They are going to check all of the safety items
o Suspension
o Steering
o Tires
o Brakes
And on top of that, they are also going to check rubber parts, like belts and hoses, which age over time. If there’s something wrong with it; it’s automatically bad. But if it looks good, that doesn’t necessarily mean it is good. The idea is to replace belts and hoses whenever they’re bad or if they don’t show any signs of being bad, replace them at five years or 75K miles.
